For centuries it was considered the garden of Florence from which it is only 7 kilometers away. The typically Tuscan landscape tells of the skillful relationship between man and nature, a dialogue that has dotted the rolling hills and fertile plain of the Arno with farms, olive groves and vineyards producing many excellent agricultural products.
The territory’s complex past has left numerous archaeological and artistic testimonies: from Etruscan and Roman excavations, to Lombard castles such as the tower with the Olive Tree of Quarate Castle, to the Spedale del Bigallo, erected in the 13th century along one of the most important Roman roads as a shelter for poor pilgrims.
